Yale’s CS department is smaller and sits inside a more undergraduate-focused environment, so the experience often feels closer-knit and more personal, but with less sheer breadth.

In academic reputation for computer science specifically, NYU is usually seen as having the stronger standalone CS profile. Courant has a long-established reputation in theoretical computer science, math, and related areas, and NYU’s size creates more specialized labs, faculty groups, and advanced coursework.
