Boston University vs. Villanova for finance: which is better for recruiting and internships?

I’m trying to decide between Boston University and Villanova and want to study finance. Both seem strong, but I’m mainly interested in which one gives students a better path to internships, networking, and full-time recruiting after graduation.

I’m looking for a school that will give me good access to finance opportunities and help me build a solid resume while I’m in college.

Boston University has the edge for finance recruiting and internships, mainly because of location, the size of its business ecosystem, and how easy it is to build experience during the school year. Being in Boston gives BU students direct access to asset management, commercial banking, consulting, corporate finance, fintech, and nearby alumni events without needing to leave campus life behind. Questrom also has enough scale that there are many student organizations, employer touchpoints, and internship paths operating at once.

The biggest differentiator is simply being in Boston. During the semester, BU students can intern part time or network in person with firms across the city, which matters a lot in finance because early experience often compounds into better junior-year internships and stronger full-time outcomes. That kind of access is especially useful if you are still figuring out whether you want investment management, corporate finance, banking, or another finance path.

BU also benefits from a larger university and business-school network. Questrom’s alumni base is broad, and the school regularly draws employers for finance-related recruiting, case competitions, and career programming. For building a resume, that scale helps because there are more clubs, more specialized communities, and more chances to take on leadership in student-managed funds or finance organizations.

Villanova is absolutely respectable in finance and has a very loyal alumni network, especially on the East Coast. In some circles, particularly around Philadelphia and with alumni who actively help students, Villanova can feel more personal and relationship-driven. That said, for sheer volume of nearby internship options during the academic year and wider exposure to different finance employers, BU is the more advantageous platform.
