Is Boston College or Tulane better for city life?

Tulane gives you the more immersive city experience. Its Uptown campus sits directly within New Orleans rather than feeling set apart from it, and students regularly move between campus, nearby restaurants, music venues, parks, and neighborhood spots on foot or with short rides. Boston College has access to Boston, but the day-to-day feel is more campus-centered and more removed from the city core.

One big difference is where the campus sits. Tulane is in a distinctly urban neighborhood next to Audubon Park and close to St. Charles Avenue, so everyday student life naturally spills into the city. New Orleans tends to feel present in your routine, not just something you visit on weekends.

At Boston College, the Chestnut Hill setting is attractive and gives you access to both Boston and nearby Brookline, but it does create more separation. You can absolutely get into the city using the T, and plenty of students do, yet it often takes more intention and planning than at Tulane. That can make BC feel more like a traditional residential campus with city access rather than a fully integrated urban campus.

The surrounding culture also matters. Tulane students are plugged into a city known for live music, festivals, food, and neighborhood identity, so exploring off campus is a major part of student life. Boston offers a larger metro area with more internship and student-oriented options overall, but Boston College itself does not feel as woven into the city on a daily basis.

If your priority is not feeling stuck in a bubble and wanting the city to be part of ordinary college life, Tulane has the edge.
