Arizona State vs UC Davis for business: which is the better choice overall?

The biggest tradeoff is scale and business-focus versus overall UC brand and in-state value. Arizona State tends to feel more directly business-oriented, especially through the W. P. Carey School of Business, which is large, well-known, and closely tied to recruiting in the Phoenix area. UC Davis can offer stronger overall value if you are a California resident, plus the UC name carries broad recognition, but its business options at the undergraduate level are less central to campus identity than ASU’s.

For business reputation specifically, ASU usually has the clearer edge. W. P. Carey is one of the more visible business schools in the West, with established pathways in areas like finance, marketing, supply chain, and accountancy. If you want a school where business is a major flagship program and where there is a big ecosystem of business clubs, employer events, and specialized recruiting, ASU is easier to point to.

For internships and jobs, location matters a lot here. ASU benefits from being in the Phoenix metro, which gives students access to a large and growing business market during the school year, not just in the summer. UC Davis students can absolutely land strong internships too, especially with Sacramento nearby and access to the broader California economy, but Davis is not as naturally plugged into a major corporate hub on a day-to-day basis.

Value depends heavily on your residency and cost. If you are in-state for UC Davis and the price difference is meaningful, Davis becomes very compelling because getting a UC degree at in-state tuition can be hard to beat. If costs are similar, ASU is the more straightforward pick for a student who already knows they want business and wants the stronger business-school identity.

I would lean ASU for business if the net cost is close, mainly because W. P. Carey is more established and visible as an undergraduate business destination. I’d lean UC Davis only if you strongly prefer the UC environment or if in-state pricing makes it the much smarter financial decision.
