Arizona or Notre Dame for finance: which is the better choice for undergraduate career opportunities?

I’m trying to decide between these two schools for finance and I keep going back and forth. I’m interested in internships, recruiting, and how strong the alumni network is for landing a first job after graduation.

Both seem like good options, but I’m not sure which one gives a better path into finance overall.

For undergraduate finance career opportunities, Notre Dame usually opens more doors nationally and more quickly, especially for competitive roles in investment banking, corporate finance leadership programs, and major financial hubs like Chicago and New York. Arizona can still work well, but the path tends to depend more on your initiative, performance, and targeting the right regional markets.

Notre Dame is a strong fit for the student who wants a built-in national network and a campus culture where alumni connections materially help with internships and first jobs. In finance, that matters a lot because early recruiting can be relationship-driven, and Notre Dame has the kind of brand and alumni loyalty that helps students get interviews they might not otherwise get. If you want broad mobility across regions and access to employers that recruit specifically with prestige and network in mind, Notre Dame has the edge.

Arizona makes sense for a student who is cost-conscious, self-directed, and comfortable building opportunity through clubs, networking, and internships in a more independent way. Eller is well regarded, and Arizona can place students into good finance outcomes, especially in the Southwest and in corporate finance, wealth management, real estate, and some banking paths. Students who hustle, take on leadership in finance organizations, and pursue internships early can absolutely do well there.

The biggest practical difference is not that Arizona lacks opportunities, but that Notre Dame tends to package them more efficiently. Recruiting pipelines, alumni responsiveness, and employer perception are likely to be stronger at Notre Dame for finance specifically. Unless Arizona is dramatically cheaper or a much better personal fit, Notre Dame is the school that more consistently gives undergrads the stronger launch into finance careers.
