Is Arizona or UCLA harder to get into?

UCLA is much harder to get into than the University of Arizona. UCLA is one of the most selective public universities in the country, while Arizona is far more accessible for applicants with solid grades and coursework. Even though both are large public research universities, they sit in very different admissions tiers.

One big reason is applicant volume and demand. UCLA draws an enormous national and international pool of students every year, including many applicants with top grades in the most rigorous courses available. Arizona gets plenty of applicants too, but it is not competing at that same level of compressed selectivity.

Another difference is how the schools are positioned academically and institutionally. UCLA is part of the University of California system and is known for highly competitive admission across most majors. Arizona is a respected flagship public university with strong programs, but its admissions process is much less restrictive overall.

Residency also matters in different ways. UCLA reviews both California residents and out-of-state applicants in a very competitive context, and simply meeting baseline academic expectations does not make someone likely to get in. Arizona is much more straightforward by comparison, and many applicants who would be reaches at UCLA are realistic or likely candidates there.

So for a simple comparison, UCLA is the tougher admit by a wide margin, and Arizona is the less selective option.
