Is UCLA or UC Berkeley better for business majors?
I'm a high school senior trying to decide between UCLA and UC Berkeley for college, and I keep seeing different opinions about which one is better for business. I know neither school is exactly a traditional business school undergrad, so I'm trying to understand which has the stronger overall reputation and opportunities for someone who wants to study business.

UC Berkeley has the clearer edge for business. The biggest reason is Haas: Berkeley offers a well-established undergraduate business path through the Haas School of Business, and that name carries real weight with employers in finance, consulting, tech, and entrepreneurship. UCLA is excellent overall, but its undergraduate business options are less direct and less central to the university’s academic structure.
At Berkeley, business is a defined lane. Students can pursue the Haas undergraduate program and plug into a campus culture that is especially strong in startups, investing, product, and analytical business fields. Being next to the Bay Area business ecosystem also matters in a practical way, since internships, networking events, and alumni access are especially dense around finance, venture capital, and tech.
UCLA’s strengths show up a bit differently. It has outstanding economics, math/econ, and related majors, plus strong recruiting in consulting, entertainment, and some finance roles through Los Angeles connections. But if your goal is specifically to study business as a discipline, Berkeley gives you a more recognized academic platform and a more obvious set of business-focused opportunities.
Another important difference is how straightforward your path will be. At UCLA, many students interested in business end up building that interest through economics, clubs, internships, and adjacent majors rather than through a flagship undergrad business school experience. Berkeley’s setup is not effortless either, but the business identity on campus is stronger and easier for employers to recognize immediately.
For reputation, both schools are elite, but Berkeley is the one more people would name first for undergraduate business.
