Is UC Irvine or San Jose State more prestigious?

UC Irvine is usually seen as more prestigious overall because it is part of the University of California system, has stronger national academic visibility, and is more often grouped with research universities that carry wider name recognition beyond California. San Jose State has a very solid reputation too, especially in Silicon Valley, but its strongest reputation is more tied to career outcomes in certain fields than to overall prestige.

UCI is associated with a more selective UC campus environment, major research activity, and stronger recognition across a wider range of disciplines.
