Is UC Davis or Miami University better for finance?

I’m trying to narrow down my college list and both UC Davis and Miami University are on it. I’m interested in finance and want to understand which school is generally stronger for that major and career path.

I’m mainly looking at things like the reputation of the business program, recruiting opportunities, and how well the school would set me up for internships and jobs in finance.

Miami University is the better pick for finance. Its Farmer School of Business is a direct, well-known undergraduate business school with a clear finance track, strong career preparation, and a long-standing reputation with employers, while UC Davis is better known overall for other areas and does not have the same undergraduate business identity. For a student who wants a straightforward path into finance recruiting, Miami usually offers the cleaner setup.

One major difference is program structure. At Miami, finance sits inside the Farmer School of Business, so you get a business-focused environment from the start, with classmates, advising, student organizations, and coursework centered on business careers. At UC Davis, finance-related study is typically housed through economics, managerial economics, or graduate-level business resources, which can still work well but is less direct for someone specifically targeting finance.

Recruiting is another important separator. Miami has a stronger reputation for placing undergraduates into business roles, especially in the Midwest, with solid pipelines to corporate finance, banking-related roles, accounting, and consulting. UC Davis benefits from being in California and near major economic hubs, but for undergraduate finance recruiting, it is not as targeted or business-school-driven in the same way.

Career preparation also tends to be more finance-specific at Miami. The business school culture there makes it easier to plug into finance clubs, case competitions, alumni networks, and internship preparation that are built for undergrads pursuing business careers. UC Davis offers plenty of opportunity because of its large alumni base and strong overall name, but for finance in particular, Miami usually provides the more intentional undergraduate experience.
