For finance careers, is Arizona State University or University College London the better undergraduate choice?

I’m trying to decide between Arizona State University and University College London for finance, and I want to choose the school that would give me the stronger overall path into the field.

I know both have different reputations and locations, but I’m mainly trying to understand which one is generally viewed as better for finance recruiting and career opportunities.

The biggest practical tradeoff is recruiting market: UCL places you much closer to London finance, while ASU is better aligned with the U.S. market, especially the Southwest. For pure brand recognition in global finance, UCL carries more weight. Its location in London matters a lot because internships, networking events, and off-cycle opportunities are far easier to access during the school year.

If your goal is investment banking, asset management, private equity, or other highly competitive finance roles, UCL is usually the stronger undergraduate platform. London is one of the world’s main finance hubs. Being in the city also makes coffee chats, insight programs, spring weeks, and term-time internships much more realistic than they would be from Tempe.

ASU can still work well for finance, especially if you are targeting corporate finance, commercial banking, wealth management, fintech, or regional firms in the U.S. W. P. Carey is a respected business school with strong employer connections, and ASU’s size can create a wide alumni base. But for the most prestige-sensitive finance recruiting tracks, students often need to be more proactive.

One important caveat is where you want to build your career. If you want to work in the UK or Europe, UCL clearly has the better positioning. If you want to work in the U.S., ASU gives you a simpler path for U.S. recruiting and alumni access, while UCL can still be valuable but may require more effort to translate into U.S. hiring pipelines.

So in overall finance reputation and access to high-level recruiting, I would lean UCL. I would only put ASU ahead if your main priority is building a career in the U.S. and you value that domestic network and recruiting structure more than UCL’s stronger international finance brand.
