Arizona State vs. Indiana for a marketing major: which is better for career opportunities?

I’m trying to decide between Arizona State and Indiana for marketing, and both seem like strong options. I’m mostly focused on which school would give me better internship connections, recruiting, and job opportunities after graduation.

I know both have business programs, but I’m having trouble figuring out which one has the stronger reputation specifically for marketing and business careers.

Indiana is the stronger pick for career opportunities in marketing. The biggest reason is the Kelley School of Business: it has a particularly strong employer reputation, a very structured career services setup, and deep recruiting pipelines into brand management, sales, consulting, and corporate marketing roles. For a student focused on internships and post-grad placement, Kelley tends to offer a more established path.

One concrete differentiator is on-campus recruiting strength. Kelley has long-standing relationships with major employers that actively recruit business students through formal programs, workshops, and interview pipelines. That matters in marketing because many entry-level roles are filled through business school recruiting channels rather than just cold applications, and Indiana is especially well known for that kind of access.

Another difference is how the marketing major is positioned within the business school. At Indiana, marketing benefits from being part of a business program that is nationally visible to employers across the Midwest, Chicago, and beyond. That broader Kelley brand can help even if you end up pursuing adjacent paths like product marketing, sales, market research, or brand management instead of a narrow “marketing” title.

Arizona State is still a very solid option, especially if you want access to the Phoenix market, a large alumni base, and strong ties to a fast-growing metro area. ASU can be especially useful for students who are proactive and want internships during the school year because of its location and scale. But if the question is specifically which school gives the more powerful business-career platform for marketing, Indiana has the edge.
