Which is better for computer science: Arizona State University or UT Dallas?

UT Dallas has the edge for computer science overall. Its academics are more tightly centered on computing and engineering, and in practice it tends to be the school students pick when they want a more focused CS environment with strong technical peers and a clear pipeline into software and engineering careers.

One big differentiator is the campus academic culture. UT Dallas is especially known for attracting a large concentration of STEM-oriented students, so computer science feels central to the university rather than one strong option among many. That often translates into a more intense CS classroom environment, more classmates aiming for internships early, and a stronger day-to-day peer network for coding, research, and recruiting prep.

Another difference is employer access. UT Dallas benefits from its location in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, where there is a deep base of tech, telecom, finance, defense, and corporate employers hiring software talent. That does not guarantee outcomes, but it does make internship and networking opportunities especially practical during the school year. For many CS students, being able to reach employers without relying only on summer recruiting is a real advantage.

Arizona State is still a very solid choice, especially if you want a larger university experience, broader campus energy, and lots of resources across a huge institution. ASU also has meaningful industry connections in the Phoenix area and a well-developed engineering ecosystem. But for the strength of the CS-focused student environment and the consistency of technical recruiting access, UT Dallas comes out ahead.
