Arizona State University or University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for business: which is better for job placement and internships?

The biggest practical tradeoff is breadth and accessibility at Arizona State versus depth of employer pull and national business prestige at UIUC. For business job placement and internships, UIUC usually has the edge because Gies College of Business carries a stronger national reputation with employers, especially in accounting, finance, consulting, and analytics, and its recruiting network is very established in Chicago and other major markets. ASU still does well, particularly through the W. P. Carey School of Business, but it tends to be a little more regional in employer perception, with especially strong ties in Phoenix and the broader Southwest.

For internships, location matters in a slightly different way than reputation. ASU benefits from being in the Phoenix metro area, which can make in-semester internships easier to access because students are near a large and growing business hub. UIUC is in a college town, so many internships happen in the summer or require more deliberate travel and planning, but the employers coming to campus for business recruiting are often very strong.

On alumni connections, both schools have huge networks, but they function differently. ASU’s alumni base is massive and practical, especially in Arizona, real estate, supply chain, tech-adjacent business roles, and corporate positions tied to the Sun Belt economy. UIUC’s alumni network is also large, and in business it tends to carry more weight nationally, particularly if you want access to Chicago firms or more competitive pipelines in finance, accounting, and consulting.

If your main question is which school gives you the better shot at strong business placement, I would lean UIUC. If cost is meaningfully lower at ASU, or you want to build your career in Phoenix and take advantage of term-time internships, ASU becomes much more compelling. But on pure recruiting strength and employer reputation for business, UIUC comes out ahead.
