Arizona State vs Ohio State: which is better for finance careers?

I’m trying to narrow down my college list and both Arizona State and Ohio State are on it. I want to study finance and eventually get a job in the field after graduation.

I know both schools have business programs, but I’m not sure which one has the stronger path into finance careers.

For finance careers, Ohio State usually gives you the stronger path, especially if you are aiming for traditional finance recruiting, a large alumni network in the Midwest and East Coast, and access to a very established Big Ten business pipeline.

Ohio State makes the most sense for a student who wants a classic campus experience but also cares a lot about structured recruiting. You would likely find more momentum there for corporate finance, banking-related student organizations, and employer recognition across a wide range of markets. Columbus is also a real advantage because it is a major city with internships available during the school year, not just in the summer.

Arizona State is appealing for a different kind of finance student. W. P. Carey is well regarded, especially for students who are practical, entrepreneurial, and interested in building experience quickly in a fast-growing metro area. Phoenix has strong business growth, and ASU can be excellent for corporate finance, real estate, fintech-adjacent interests, and students who are proactive about networking and internships.

ASU tends to suit someone who wants flexibility, a large university with lots of pathways, and access to the Southwest job market. It can work very well if you are self-directed and willing to chase opportunities early.

If your main priority is the broadest traditional finance brand and recruiting setup, I would lean Ohio State. If you are excited by the Phoenix market, want a strong business school in a rapidly expanding region, and like a more build-your-own-path approach, ASU is very compelling.
