Arizona State vs. San Diego State: which has the better social life for undergrads?

The biggest practical tradeoff is scale versus atmosphere: Arizona State gives you a much bigger, more constant social scene because Tempe is packed with students, events, apartments, and San Diego State tends to feel more contained and campus-centered, with a strong social life that often revolves around friend groups, beach plans, and weekends. ASU’s Tempe campus is right in the middle of a dense college environment, so it can feel active almost all the time. SDSU is definitely social too, but the vibe is usually a little less nonstop and a little more tied to who you know and what circles you’re in.

If your question is which school has the stronger overall social life for the average undergrad, ASU probably has the edge. It has a huge student body, a very visible school-spirit culture, major sports presence, lots of clubs and campus programming, and a surrounding area built around student life.
