Georgetown vs Fordham for finance careers: which is stronger for recruiting and networking?

I’m trying to decide between Georgetown and Fordham and I want to go into finance after college. Both seem like they could be good for internships and networking, but I’m not sure which one has the stronger reputation and placement for finance careers.

I’m mainly comparing them as undergrad options and want to understand which school would give a better path into banking or related finance jobs.

For undergraduate finance recruiting, Georgetown usually has the stronger overall pull, especially for high-selectivity paths like investment banking and finance jobs that value a nationally recognized brand. Its alumni network is deep in finance, consulting, and government-adjacent business roles, and the school’s reputation travels well beyond one city. If your goal is broad access to top employers and a name that opens doors in multiple markets, Georgetown has the edge.

Georgetown tends to fit the student who wants a more national platform and is aiming high from day one. Even though it is best known publicly for politics and international affairs, its business school is well regarded, and employers are very familiar with Georgetown candidates. For finance, that matters because recruiting often starts with firms deciding where to spend time and which resumes get immediate attention.

Fordham makes the most sense for a student who wants to build directly in New York and is ready to hustle early and often. Its location is a real advantage for internships during the school year, especially in corporate finance, asset management, accounting, commercial banking, and some investment banking pathways. The Gabelli School of Business has a solid reputation in the NYC market, and Fordham students can absolutely land strong finance roles, but outcomes tend to depend more heavily on how proactively you network and capitalize on being in the city.

Fordham can be especially appealing if you want frequent in-semester access to firms, alumni coffee chats, and internships that do not require relocating for the summer. For a student who is organized, persistent, and very New York-focused, that can translate into excellent early experience. The tradeoff is that the school’s reach and signaling power are not usually as strong as Georgetown’s at the highest tiers of recruiting.

So the difference is less about whether Fordham can lead to finance and more about how much built-in momentum you want. Georgetown gives you a stronger brand and broader alumni leverage; Fordham gives you daily proximity to the market and a path that rewards initiative.
