Georgetown or NYU for internships: which is better for college students?

For internships alone, NYU usually has the broader day-to-day advantage because of sheer access to New York’s job market during the school year. Students can reach media, finance, tech, arts, startups, nonprofits, and corporate offices by subway, and NYU’s academic calendar and city integration make part-time in-semester internships feel very normal. Georgetown is also excellent, but its biggest edge is more concentrated in politics, policy, government, international affairs, and adjacent fields tied to Washington, DC.

NYU fits the student who wants volume and variety. If you are still exploring industries, New York gives you more lanes at once, and NYU students often stack internships, campus jobs, and networking events without leaving the city. That matters if you want flexibility to pivot between, say, communications, consulting, fashion, entertainment, business, or nonprofit work while building a resume over several semesters.

Georgetown fits the student who wants proximity to institutions where access and credibility matter a lot. For someone interested in Capitol Hill, federal agencies, embassies, think tanks, public service, journalism tied to national politics, or international policy, Georgetown’s location and alumni network are hard to beat. The school’s reputation in those spaces is very real, and internships can feel closely tied to what students are studying.

For summer internships, both schools place students well, but the distinction is less about summer and more about what happens from September through May. NYU gives more industries within immediate reach; Georgetown gives a more targeted ecosystem with especially strong pathways in DC-centered fields.

So the stronger overall internship advantage depends on what “overall” means for you. For the widest range of industries in a big-city environment, NYU has the clearer edge. For students already leaning toward government, policy, diplomacy, or political journalism, Georgetown may produce more relevant opportunities earlier and more naturally.
