If your priority is being in a place where biology is one of the school’s clear academic strengths, UCSD stands out.

UC San Diego fits the student who wants a big research university environment and is excited by scale. Biology there is not just one solid department tucked into the university. It is woven into the identity of the campus, with strong connections to medicine, public health, neuroscience, marine biology, ecology, and biotech in the San Diego area. That matters because biology students often benefit from access to many labs, many subfields, and a large network of professors, graduate students, hospitals, and research institutes.

Chapman makes more sense for the student who learns best in smaller classes and wants a more personal, undergraduate-centered setting. You may get easier access to professors earlier, and some students prefer the more intimate campus feel.
