For business specifically, University of Washington is usually the more straightforward choice if you want an undergraduate business path with strong recruiting access in the U.S. Foster is a well-known business school, Seattle gives you proximity to major employers, and the undergraduate business experience is more established and visible than what most high school applicants mean when they say they want to study business. University of Edinburgh has excellent overall global prestige, but it is not typically the first name people point to for undergraduate business in the same way UW Foster is.

UW tends to fit the student who wants a clearly business-focused college experience early on. Foster’s undergraduate program is a real draw, and being in Seattle matters for internships in finance, consulting, marketing, tech-related business roles, and startups. If career plans are U.S.-based, especially on the West Coast, UW has a practical edge because employer recognition and networking pipelines are easier to activate during college.

Edinburgh makes more sense for a student who wants a highly international university environment and is excited by studying in the UK system. For a high school student choosing purely on business, I would lean toward University of Washington unless you have a specific reason to prefer the UK, such as cost, location, visa plans, or a desire for an international career path. Edinburgh is the stronger name as a university in many global circles, but UW is often the more targeted pick for undergraduate business outcomes, especially if you want hands-on access to internships and recruiting while in college.
