Duke vs Columbia prestige: which name is more impressive to employers and grad schools?

The biggest practical tradeoff is broad national recognition versus a slight edge in old-brand, Ivy-style signaling. Duke has a very strong name across the U.S., especially in the South, in business, medicine, public policy, and high-level recruiting. Columbia can carry a bit more instant prestige in some circles because it is an Ivy League school in New York City, and that Ivy label is still very legible to employers and grad admissions readers.
