Michigan State is usually the more fun undergraduate experience if what you mean is an easy, visible, traditional social scene. It has a true college-town atmosphere in East Lansing, Big Ten school spirit, and a large residential campus where weekend life is built around student organizations, sports, parties, and campus events. Social life tends to be easier to step into because so much of the student body lives and hangs out in the same orbit.

The biggest difference is the setting. Michigan State feels like a self-contained college environment, so it is simpler to find things happening on campus and to run into people spontaneously. Northeastern is in Boston, which gives you far more city options, but that also means social life is more spread out across neighborhoods, internships, restaurants, concerts, and friend groups with different schedules.

Weekend energy is also pretty different. At Michigan State, weekends are more likely to feel collective, with football culture, campus traditions, and a stronger sense that everyone is participating in the same social rhythm. At Northeastern, weekends can be fun, but they often depend more on making plans and taking initiative because students are balancing co-op cycles, city life, and activities that are not centered in one campus bubble.

Housing and student routine matter too. Michigan State offers the classic live-near-your-friends, walk-to-everything setup that naturally supports a social undergraduate experience. Northeastern can be exciting, especially for students who like independence and using Boston as part of their college life, but it often feels less like a single campus scene and more like a mix of campus and city. For pure undergrad fun in the traditional sense, Michigan State has the clearer edge.
