Rice has the stronger overall academic reputation, a more selective undergraduate environment, and very strong outcomes across consulting, finance, tech, and entrepreneurship. USF gives you day-to-day access to San Francisco internships during the school year, which is a real benefit, but its business program does not carry the same national weight as Rice’s.

For business specifically, Rice is usually viewed as the more powerful name. Its undergraduate business major is housed in a university with strong quantitative academics, a tight alumni network, and employers that recruit broadly for high-achieving students. Rice also benefits from close ties to energy, healthcare, real estate, and startups, so students interested in those areas often have excellent options.

USF’s advantage is that it sits in a major business hub. That can make internships more accessible during the semester, especially in marketing, entrepreneurship, fintech-adjacent roles, and smaller firms where being nearby matters. The School of Management is solid and practical, but in a head-to-head comparison, it is not usually seen at the same level as Rice for prestige, selectivity, or breadth of post-grad opportunity.

If your question is which school is generally stronger for business, Rice is the clearer answer. USF becomes more compelling if you specifically want to build your college experience around San Francisco, prefer an urban campus, and value local internship access enough to trade away some brand strength and recruiting power.
