Is admissions harder at Harvard or Vanderbilt for undergrad applicants?

Harvard is harder to get into than Vanderbilt for most undergraduate applicants. Both are extremely selective, but Harvard sits at the very top tier of admissions difficulty, with a larger global applicant pool, unusually high concentrations of valedictorian-level students, and very little room for error across academics, activities, recommendations, and essays.

A student who is competitive for Harvard usually needs not just near-perfect academic preparation, but also a profile that stands out in a rare way.
