Which is more prestigious: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign or Cornell University?

Cornell University carries more overall prestige in general name recognition, admissions perception, and broad employer reputation. It is an Ivy League university, which gives it a stronger immediate brand nationally and internationally. In many general conversations about college reputation, Cornell’s name will tend to carry more weight.

One concrete reason is breadth of reputation across fields. Cornell has strong visibility not just in engineering or business-adjacent areas, but also across arts and sciences, architecture, hospitality, agriculture, and pre-professional paths. UIUC is highly respected, but its strongest reputation is more concentrated in areas like engineering, computer science, and some quantitative fields.
