The biggest practical difference is that Virginia Tech’s school spirit is more central to everyday campus culture, while UMass Amherst has solid pride but it tends to be less all-encompassing. At Virginia Tech, football Saturdays, Hokie traditions, and the overall identity of being a Hokie are highly visible parts of student life.
