Florida or Boston College for accounting: which is the stronger choice?

The biggest practical tradeoff is this: UF has one of the most established and nationally respected accounting pipelines in the country, while Boston College gives you a strong business education with excellent Northeast recruiting but not the same accounting-specific reputation. UF’s accounting program is especially well known among firms, and its recruiting into public accounting is deep and consistent. BC is a very good school with strong employer access, but accounting is not usually the reason it stands out most.

If your question is specifically which school is stronger for accounting, UF has the edge. The Fisher School of Accounting has a long-standing reputation, strong placement into Big Four and other major firms, and a very clear path for students aiming at audit, tax, or related accounting roles. For someone who already knows accounting is the goal, that specialized strength matters.

Boston College can still lead to great internships and first jobs, especially through the Carroll School of Management and its connections in Boston, New York, and finance-heavy markets. But BC is often more prominent for finance, consulting, and broader business placement than for accounting alone.

Cost also matters here more than usual. If you are in-state for Florida, UF becomes especially attractive because you would be getting a top accounting option at a much lower price. That combination of program strength and value is hard to beat. BC can be worth it for some students, especially if you want the private-school environment, smaller feel, and Northeast network, but it is a more expensive way to reach an accounting career.

For accounting by itself, I would lean UF. It is the more accounting-focused choice, the recruiting is especially strong in that field, and the return on investment is often better, particularly for Florida residents.
