Should I choose the University of Florida or Georgetown for finance?

I’m a high school senior trying to decide between the University of Florida and Georgetown, and I want to study finance. I know both are strong schools, but I’m not sure which one is the better fit if my main goal is to build a career in finance.

I’m looking at this from the perspective of overall opportunity, reputation, and how each school might help with internships and recruiting.

The biggest practical tradeoff is cost and campus experience versus finance-specific access. Florida can be an outstanding value, especially if your price is much lower, but Georgetown gives you a more direct pipeline to high-finance recruiting, alumni connections, and internships tied to Washington, D.C., New York, and major employers. For a student whose main priority is maximizing finance opportunities, Georgetown usually has the clearer edge because of its business school reputation and network.

At Georgetown, being in the McDonough School of Business matters. It is much more plugged into finance recruiting culture, and the alumni base is especially helpful in fields like investment banking, private equity, asset management, and consulting. Georgetown students also benefit from the school’s brand in cities where finance hiring is concentrated, and the internship access during the academic year is stronger because of the location and employer ties.

UF is still a very good option, particularly if you are in-state or received major scholarships. Warrington is respected, and strong UF students do place well in finance, especially when they actively pursue student investment funds, leadership roles, networking, and internships. The difference is that at UF, breaking into top finance paths can require more self-driven hustle and more intentional networking outside the immediate campus ecosystem.

If your goal is broad business success and you would save a lot of money at UF, that can absolutely be the smarter decision. But if the cost is manageable and you are focused specifically on finance recruiting, especially competitive front-office roles, Georgetown is the one I would pick. It gives you a better launchpad, a stronger finance signal on your resume, and an alumni network that is harder to replicate.
