Is Princeton or Georgetown better for law school prep?

The biggest practical tradeoff is Princeton’s smaller, more academic undergraduate environment versus Georgetown’s Washington, DC access to internships, policy work, and legal institutions during the school year. Princeton gives you unusually close faculty access, a strong independent research culture through junior papers and the senior thesis, and a campus where undergraduates are the clear priority. Georgetown gives you day-to-day proximity to Capitol Hill, federal agencies, nonprofits, think tanks, and a large pre-law ecosystem that can make legal exposure easier to build early.

For law school prep specifically, Princeton has a real advantage in academic training. Law schools care heavily about GPA, rigorous reading and writing, and strong recommendations, and Princeton is excellent on all three. The required independent work pushes students to develop the analytical writing skills that matter a lot in law school applications and in law school itself.

Georgetown’s edge is experiential. If you want to test whether you actually like legal or policy work before applying to law school, it is hard to beat being in DC. You can intern during the semester, attend public talks constantly, and build relationships with people working in government, advocacy, international affairs, and public service. That can help you shape a more grounded law school narrative and resume.

One thing worth noting is that neither school has a “pre-law major” advantage in the way students sometimes imagine. Law schools do not prefer one college simply because it is known for pre-law. They care more about how well you perform, how demanding your coursework is, how compelling your recommendations are, and whether your experiences show real intellectual maturity.
