Is Northeastern or the University of Richmond more fun for undergrads?

Northeastern is more likely to feel fun day to day for most undergrads who want constant activity, mainly because of its Boston location, bigger student population, and more built-in variety outside class. You are not limited to one campus scene there: students mix campus clubs and events with neighborhoods, restaurants, concerts, internships, and other colleges nearby.

Boston is the biggest differentiator. At Northeastern, a lot of the social life spills off campus, so “having something to do” is rarely the problem. Even students who are not into a traditional party scene often find the city itself makes college life feel fuller.

The co-op culture also changes the vibe in a noticeable way. Northeastern can feel less like one tightly contained campus bubble and more like a student life that blends with real-world experience in the city. Some people love that because it makes undergrad feel dynamic and adult; others think it weakens class cohesion a bit.

Richmond tends to offer a more self-contained and polished campus experience. Its campus is widely seen as beautiful and easier to navigate socially, and that smaller scale can make friendships and traditions feel more intimate. But because it is more campus-centered and the surrounding area is quieter than Boston, the overall energy often feels calmer and less constantly active.

So if by fun you mean lively surroundings, spontaneous options, and a busier social atmosphere, Northeastern has the edge. Richmond can absolutely be enjoyable, especially for someone who prefers a close-knit community over a high-motion city experience, but it usually feels less socially electric.
