Carnegie Mellon vs Georgia Tech for AI careers: which is better for an undergraduate path into AI?
I’m a high school senior trying to choose between Carnegie Mellon and Georgia Tech for AI. Both seem strong in computer science, but I’m mainly interested in how each school sets students up for AI-related internships, research, and jobs after graduation.
I’m not looking at prestige in general, just which one is usually the stronger choice for starting an AI career as an undergrad.

For an undergraduate focused specifically on launching into AI, Carnegie Mellon usually has the edge. For someone who wants AI but also values a larger public-school atmosphere, easier crossovers with engineering or business, and a campus culture that can feel a bit less narrowly centered on elite CS intensity, Georgia Tech can be a very smart path.
The difference is not that Georgia Tech lacks AI opportunities. It absolutely has them. The difference is that at CMU, AI is more central to the identity of the computing program itself, so the density of specialized opportunities tends to be higher.
If your goal is to maximize access to cutting-edge AI research, highly specialized coursework, and a very concentrated recruiting pipeline into AI-adjacent roles, Carnegie Mellon is usually the stronger undergraduate launch point. Georgia Tech is excellent and can get you to the same kinds of outcomes, but CMU is the place that more consistently feels built around AI as a field, not just computer science as a broad discipline.
