William & Mary vs Northeastern for internships: which school gives more access to internships?

For internship access alone, Northeastern usually has the clearer built-in advantage. Its co-op system is specifically designed to connect students with full-time work experiences during college, and being in Boston adds a dense local market for internships across business, tech, healthcare, media, and nonprofits. The school also has advising and employer relationships structured around getting students into these roles early and repeatedly.

William & Mary fits a different kind of student well: someone comfortable being more proactive and strategic, especially if they are interested in government, law, public policy, history, consulting, or East Coast nonprofit work. Its network is loyal, and proximity to Richmond and Washington, D.C. can absolutely help, especially for students who use alumni outreach, career services, and semester or summer opportunities effectively. The internship path there can be strong, but it is less automated and less central to the school’s identity than it is at Northeastern.

If your top priority is maximum volume of internship access and institutional support built around work experience, Northeastern has the edge. If you are drawn to a more traditional college experience and your interests line up with fields where William & Mary’s alumni network and regional connections are especially useful, William & Mary can still deliver strong opportunities, but it usually asks for more self-direction.
