Rochester has the edge for undergraduate research. Its identity is more deeply tied to research across the sciences, engineering, and health-related fields, and undergrads benefit from being at a university with major graduate programs, a medical center, and a broad lab ecosystem. That usually translates into more kinds of projects, more faculty doing active research, and more pathways into substantial work beyond basic assisting.

One concrete advantage is scale and breadth. Rochester gives undergraduates access not only to standard departmental labs but also to research connected to the University of Rochester Medical Center, optics and biomedical engineering, brain and cognitive sciences, and interdisciplinary institutes. If your interests might shift, that matters because you are less likely to hit a ceiling where there are only a handful of labs in your area.
