Georgetown carries much broader prestige across the country, especially in law, policy, government, international affairs, consulting, and finance, while Santa Clara has a very solid reputation in Silicon Valley and is especially well regarded by tech employers in Northern California. Outside the West Coast, Georgetown is much more likely to be immediately recognized by employers and graduate programs.

For college admissions and grad school perception, Georgetown is typically viewed as the more prestigious institution overall. It has a stronger national and international brand, and that matters most in fields where institutional reputation travels widely, like law, public policy, academia, and certain competitive business tracks. Santa Clara is respected, but its reputation is more tied to its location, Jesuit identity, and practical pipelines into nearby industries rather than broad national prestige.
