Is UC Berkeley or UT Austin more prestigious for undergrad?

The biggest practical tradeoff is national brand versus regional strength by field: UC Berkeley tends to carry broader national and international prestige across undergraduate majors, while UT Austin has enormous respect, especially in Texas and in several standout programs like business, engineering, and computer science. On a resume, Berkeley is more likely to be instantly read as an elite public university almost anywhere in the U.S., while UT Austin can be just as powerful in certain industries and regions.

Outside the U.S., Berkeley is also more likely to be recognized immediately.

If your question is strictly prestige, Berkeley comes out ahead overall. If your question is practical career value, UT Austin is close enough that major, location, cost, and access to specific opportunities matter more than the name difference alone.
