How does Boston College compare to Brandeis in admissions difficulty?

I’m trying to figure out how hard it is to get into Boston College compared with Brandeis. Both seem like schools I could see myself applying to, but I’m having trouble telling which one is generally more selective.

I’m not asking about this year specifically, just the overall admissions difficulty and how students usually compare the two schools.

The biggest practical difference is that Boston College is usually viewed as the tougher admit overall, while Brandeis is still selective but tends to sit a step below BC in how hard it is to get in. BC gets a very large applicant pool, has a strong national reputation, and draws many students who are also applying to other highly selective private universities. Brandeis is academically strong and selective too, but applicants usually treat it as slightly less of a reach than Boston College.

In real admissions terms, that means Boston College often asks for a more competitive overall profile across grades, course rigor, extracurriculars, and essays. Brandeis still wants strong academics and thoughtful applications, but students comparing the two often see BC as the school where the margin for error is smaller.

Part of this comes from positioning and demand. Boston College has especially high interest because of its campus culture, alumni network, business-related appeal through Carroll, and location near Boston while still having a traditional residential campus. Brandeis, in nearby Waltham, attracts serious academic students and has a strong intellectual reputation, but it does not usually produce quite the same level of broad applicant demand as BC.

Boston College is the more selective of the two in most admissions comparisons. Brandeis is not easy, but it is more often placed in the next tier down rather than seen as equally difficult as BC.
