For most undergraduates, USC tends to feel more fun in the broad, visible, high-energy sense. Its Los Angeles location, major sports culture, warm weather, and very active campus social scene create a college experience that often feels busy and outward-facing. WashU can absolutely be enjoyable, but the vibe is usually more contained, lower-key, and centered on close friend groups, campus events, and life around St. Louis rather than constant big-school buzz.

USC fits students who want a campus where something always seems to be happening. Football Saturdays, school spirit, Greek life, performances, student organizations, and access to LA all feed into that. A lot of students like that USC does not feel socially isolated from the city, so fun can mean both campus traditions and going off campus for concerts, food, beaches, internships, or neighborhood exploring.

WashU tends to suit students who want a social life that feels polished, comfortable, and less chaotic. The campus is beautiful, and there are plenty of clubs, performances, and student-run events. Forest Park, the Delmar Loop, and nearby neighborhoods give students things to do, but the school usually feels less dominated by spectacle and more by smaller-scale social circles.

A practical difference is that USC’s fun can be more immediate and visible, which some students love and others find overwhelming or status-conscious. WashU’s social scene often takes a bit more intention, but many students end up liking how manageable and grounded it feels.
