Williams vs Dartmouth for consulting careers: which is better for recruiting?

The biggest practical tradeoff is scale and recruiting structure: Dartmouth has a larger on-campus recruiting ecosystem and more direct visibility from major consulting firms, while Williams gives you a smaller, very personal network that can still place well but is usually less formalized. For consulting specifically, Dartmouth tends to have more firms recruiting actively, more classmates targeting that path, and an alumni base that is especially visible in business-oriented fields. Williams absolutely sends students into consulting too, but the path is often more individual and relationship-driven rather than built around the same level of structured recruiting volume.

On recruiting strength alone, Dartmouth has the clearer edge.

Williams’ alumni network is excellent, but it is strongest in the way top liberal arts colleges often are: very loyal, responsive, and willing to help, especially when you reach out thoughtfully. The difference is that consulting recruiting at Williams may require more self-direction, and fewer classmates will be moving through the exact same recruiting process at the same time. That can be a positive if you want close faculty access and a less pre-professional campus atmosphere, but it is not usually the cleaner recruiting machine.

If your main criterion is consulting access, Dartmouth is the safer bet. Williams is still a respected launchpad and can absolutely get you there, but Dartmouth offers the more visible track record, broader firm engagement, and more built-in recruiting momentum for consulting careers.
