At Columbia, New York is part of daily life in a very immediate way because students use the subway, walk to neighborhood spots, and move between campus and the city without much separation. At Georgia Tech, Atlanta is accessible and relevant, but the campus itself feels more distinct and self-contained.

For day-to-day city life, Columbia usually feels more urban. Its Morningside Heights location is dense, pedestrian-friendly, and tightly connected to public transit, so getting around without a car is normal and easy. Student life often spills into nearby neighborhoods, and Manhattan’s pace, variety, and late-night activity are hard to ignore.

Georgia Tech is in Midtown, which is one of Atlanta’s strongest areas for students and young professionals. You do have restaurants, internships, events, and city amenities nearby, and the BeltLine and MARTA help. But Atlanta is still more spread out, and many parts of city life are less naturally integrated into a student’s routine unless you make a point to go out and explore.

The campus vibe is also different. Columbia feels embedded in the city even though it has a defined campus core, so you get both an academic bubble and a constant sense of being in New York.
