Is Stanford or NYU more fun for undergrad life?

For most undergrads, Stanford and NYU are fun in very different ways, and the answer depends on what kind of daily life energizes you. Stanford tends to feel more traditionally “college fun” because students live on or near one large campus, the weather makes outdoor life easy, and social events often revolve around dorms, clubs, campus traditions, athletics, and house parties. NYU feels fun if you want the city itself to be your social scene, with weekends built around neighborhoods, restaurants, concerts, internships, museums, and downtown nightlife rather than a single campus center.

Stanford usually appeals more to someone who wants a contained community where it is easy to run into friends, join spontaneous plans, and feel immersed in a shared undergraduate culture. The campus is huge, residential life is central, and students often talk about the convenience of having most of their social world in one place. That setup can make day-to-day life feel lively and social without requiring much planning or money every weekend.

NYU fits students who get bored by a bubble and want independence from the start. There is always something to do in Manhattan, and the range of off-campus options is hard to match. The tradeoff is that social life can require more initiative because people are spread across different buildings, schedules, and neighborhoods, so the fun is less built in and more self-created.

In atmosphere, Stanford is often described as sunny, active, and campus-centered, while NYU is more fast-paced, urban, and individualistic. If by fun you mean school spirit, easy group hangouts, and a classic undergrad social rhythm, Stanford usually wins that comparison. If by fun you mean constant access to a major city and freedom to build your own version of college life, NYU can be more exciting.
