For a student who wants a school known for strong academics, school spirit, a classic college experience, and a very loyal alumni network, UVA can be just as impressive in the settings that actually shape hiring and graduate admissions.

In college admissions, neither school is likely to give you a meaningful prestige advantage over the other just by name alone if you later apply to grad school or professional programs. Those readers care much more about grades, rigor, recommendations, research, internships, and what you did on campus. So if the question is pure headline prestige, Cornell is usually perceived as higher. If the question is long-term practical value on applications and resumes, both are elite enough that your performance there will matter much more than the gap in brand perception.
