Is UChicago or Stanford better for computer science?

Stanford is the stronger choice for computer science.

One major differentiator is proximity and network. Stanford sits in the middle of Silicon Valley, which affects internships, research partnerships, recruiting, guest speakers, and startup culture in a way few schools can match.

Another is the scale and breadth of the department. Stanford offers exceptional depth across core CS areas and has longstanding strength in both theoretical and applied work.

UChicago is absolutely credible in CS, and it has grown meaningfully in the field. It can be especially appealing if you like a more intellectual, theory-friendly environment and want stronger exposure to math, statistics, economics, or interdisciplinary quantitative work. But for a student asking which school is better specifically for computer science, rather than as an overall university experience, Stanford is the more compelling answer.

The post-grad landscape also leans Stanford. Top tech companies recruit heavily there, and the alumni network in software and startups is unusually influential. UChicago students can still do very well, but Stanford makes the road more direct and more saturated with CS-specific opportunities.
