UC Davis vs Bowdoin: which has the better campus vibe for undergrads?

UC Davis is usually described as friendly, laid-back, outdoorsy, and unpretentious. The bike culture shapes the feel of the place more than people expect, and the campus has a very open, casual rhythm. Students often talk about collaboration over competition, and the town of Davis itself reinforces that because it is so college-centered, walkable, and mellow. Socially, it is not a nonstop party environment, but there is plenty happening through clubs, campus events, apartments, and friend groups.

Bowdoin has a warmer social tone than some people assume from a highly selective liberal arts college, but it does feel more intimate and academically concentrated. Because it is smaller and more residential, it can be easier to feel known by professors and classmates, and that can make the campus feel supportive.
