How does Pitt’s campus size compare to Ohio State’s campus size for an undergrad student?

I’m trying to get a better feel for what day-to-day life would be like at each school. Pitt seems much more compact, while Ohio State looks a lot bigger and more spread out.

I’m mostly interested in how the campus size affects walking, getting to classes, and the overall feel as a student.

Pitt is noticeably more compact for an undergrad, while Ohio State feels much larger and more spread out in daily life. At Pitt, much of undergraduate life is concentrated in Oakland, so academic buildings, residence halls, libraries, and student hangouts are relatively close together. At Ohio State, the main Columbus campus is much bigger, with longer walks between some parts of campus and a stronger sense of being in a large university environment.

That shows up first in getting to class. At Pitt, many students can walk between classes in a fairly tight area, and the campus often feels easy to learn quickly because so much is clustered together. Ohio State has more distance between neighborhoods of campus, so depending on your major and where you live, getting across campus can take more planning and may involve buses, bikes, or a brisk walk.

The physical feel is also different. Pitt blends into an urban neighborhood, so it can feel dense, vertical, and city-connected rather than like a huge enclosed campus. Ohio State has a more expansive traditional Big Ten campus feel, with broad stretches of university space, larger student crowds, and more separation between different sections of campus.

For day-to-day student life, Pitt often feels more convenient if you want a campus where errands, dining, classes, and social spaces are tightly packed. Ohio State tends to offer more room and scale, but that scale is something you feel regularly, especially when moving between residence areas, the academic core, and activity spaces.
