Boston University vs Wake Forest for psychology: which is better for undergrad psychology majors?

The biggest practical tradeoff is scale versus intimacy. Boston University gives you a larger, more research-heavy environment in a major city, with broad psychology course options and access to major hospitals and labs. Wake Forest offers a smaller undergraduate setting with closer faculty interaction, smaller classes, and an easier time being known personally by professors.

For undergraduate psychology specifically, BU has an edge in the sheer range of opportunities. Its psychology department is embedded in a major research university, and being in Boston matters because of nearby clinical, medical, and research institutions.

Wake Forest tends to feel more hands-on and personal day to day. Undergrads often find it easier to build strong mentoring relationships, get detailed recommendation letters, and step into meaningful lab roles earlier because the campus is smaller and faculty contact is more direct. If your ideal psych experience includes discussion-based classes and professors who know your work well, Wake is very appealing.

For grad school preparation, either can work well, but the path looks a little different. BU may offer more volume in research options and more off-campus professional exposure. Wake may make it simpler to stand out within the department and get sustained mentoring, which is also very valuable for grad applications in psychology.

My view is that BU is the better pick if you want the widest psychology ecosystem and are excited by a fast-paced, urban, research-oriented experience. Wake Forest is the stronger option if you want a more personal undergraduate experience without giving up academic quality. For psychology alone, I would give BU a slight advantage, but not by a huge margin.
