University of Florida usually comes out ahead on return on investment, especially if you are an in-state Florida student or your UF cost is meaningfully lower. UC Davis is also a respected degree with excellent outcomes in areas like biological sciences, agriculture, environmental fields, and engineering, but the price can be much harder to justify if you would be paying nonresident UC costs.

The biggest differentiator is total cost. If loans are part of the equation, that gap matters a lot, because even a solid salary after graduation does not erase an extra four years of much higher borrowing.

The next difference is where the degree travels most efficiently in the job market. UF has a very large alumni network in Florida and strong name recognition across the Southeast, which can be a real advantage for internships and first jobs in that region. So from a pure ROI lens, UF has the edge in most normal scenarios. UC Davis becomes the smarter value mainly when the net price is close or when you are specifically targeting one of Davis’s standout academic areas and plan to use its California connections.
