USC is also known for having a very active alumni network, and that can make networking and referrals meaningfully easier.

USC tends to fit students who want to be aggressive about career-building early. If you expect to use the school year, not just summers, to intern, attend employer events, and make industry contacts, USC has real advantages because many companies are nearby and the Trojan alumni network is unusually engaged.

UC Davis makes more sense for students whose opportunities are tied more to academics, research, or specific regional pipelines rather than constant proximity to big-city employers. Davis is well regarded, and students absolutely do get strong internships and jobs, especially in areas connected to agriculture, biological sciences, environmental work, veterinary and health-related paths, engineering, and California public-sector or research settings. The campus also benefits from being closer to Sacramento for government, policy, and some biotech-related opportunities.

If you are the kind of student who will proactively search, apply widely, and use summers well, UC Davis can still lead to excellent outcomes. But it often requires more intentional effort to build the same volume of networking contacts that USC students can access more naturally through location and alumni reach.

So the real split is this: USC is typically stronger for students who want a highly network-driven, internship-heavy college experience with lots of employer access during the academic year. UC Davis is a very solid option for students whose fields align with its academic strengths and who do not need the same level of built-in big-city recruiting to reach their goals.
