Is Wellesley or Yale better for an English major?

Yale has the edge for an English major overall. For someone who wants to study literature very seriously, Yale usually offers more range and more built-in intellectual infrastructure.

Wellesley stands out most for the undergraduate classroom experience. For pure depth and breadth in English, Yale comes out ahead.
