Is Georgetown worth it over Boston College for an undergraduate degree?

The biggest practical tradeoff is this: Georgetown gives you a more distinctive location and network for politics, government, international affairs, consulting, and certain finance paths, while Boston College gives you a very strong undergraduate experience and alumni loyalty without usually needing the same level of brand premium. BC, meanwhile, has a powerful East Coast alumni base, strong placement into business and finance, and a campus culture many students find more cohesive and traditionally residential.

If you are seriously interested in political science, international relations, public policy, journalism tied to government, or work that benefits from being in DC every week, Georgetown can absolutely be worth the extra cost or effort. Its School of Foreign Service in particular has a reputation that is hard to match for undergraduates, and Georgetown’s name carries real weight in policy-oriented circles.
