For most students, no: Georgetown is usually not worth choosing over UVA for undergrad if the price gap is large. UVA is a highly respected university with strong outcomes, a broad alumni network, and especially strong value for Virginia residents. In many fields, employers and grad schools will view a strong UVA student and a strong Georgetown student as similarly impressive, so paying dramatically more often does not buy a proportionally bigger return.

One big differentiator is cost flexibility after college. Taking the lower-cost option can leave you with much more freedom to choose internships, public service work, grad school, or a first job based on fit rather than loan pressure. That matters a lot because both schools place students well, so the financial difference can shape your actual post-college options more than the brand difference does.

Another factor is academic breadth and campus experience. UVA is larger and offers more of a classic public flagship environment, with extensive majors, research, school spirit, and a very large alumni base across industries. Georgetown is more specialized in feel and tends to stand out most in areas tied to government, international relations, policy, and DC-connected internships, but that advantage is strongest when you know you want to use it heavily.

Location is the clearest reason someone might justify the extra cost. Georgetown’s Washington, DC setting can make semester-time access to policy, diplomacy, nonprofit, and political internships much easier. If you are deeply committed to those paths and can afford the premium without serious debt, that extra access can be meaningful. But if the higher cost would require substantial borrowing, UVA is usually the smarter value because the gap in opportunity is real but not large enough in most undergraduate cases to justify a much bigger bill.
