Is Northeastern or Georgia Tech generally harder to get into?

For overall admission, Northeastern is generally harder to get into than Georgia Tech, largely because it draws an exceptionally large national applicant pool and has become highly selective across its undergraduate options. Georgia Tech is also very difficult to enter, but the comparison changes substantially based on Georgia residency and intended major.

A Georgia resident may have a meaningfully clearer path to Georgia Tech than an out-of-state applicant, since the institute is a public university with a mission to serve in-state students. For applicants from outside Georgia, Georgia Tech is extremely competitive, particularly for applicants targeting high-demand fields such as computer science and engineering. Strong math and science preparation matters especially heavily there.

Northeastern’s selectivity is less tied to one academic area because applicants across many interests compete for a limited number of places. Its large volume of applications, urban Boston location, experiential-learning focus, and broad national appeal make admission unpredictable even for students with very strong grades and activities. Northeastern’s various entry pathways can also make simple admit-rate comparisons less revealing than they appear.
